If you look at some of the pages below of this historic race program for the 1956 Elkhart Lakes Road America event you'll notice Harley Earl is prominently featured. The main reason was because he was a gigantic supporter...not just a race fan, but "Mr. GM" as some people called him in those days saw to it that GM (it's five major brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac and Oldsmobile) and/or America's greatest car company was very much committed to supporting this fledgling sport.
