Excerpt here is from a 1954 Saturday Evening Post article (first page below) which Harley Earl wrote that is titled: I DREAM AUTOMOBILES:

"I have been in earnest about this central theme of my designing work. This should be clear from the fact that I left California to take up the task, and Californians do not lightly abandon their state. This goes double for Californians like the Earl family--my great-grandparents arrived before the gold rush, one by way of the Horn, one overland by prairie schooner."
