For Sale: 1956 Corvette SR-2 Price: Serious Inquiries Only Contact: Richard Earl at: 561.420.9880
Hand-built within a secret design studio of GM Styling, this iconic race car was the very first Chevrolet Corvette to ever come out of GM to hit the American race car circuit. Preceding the famous Corvette SS racer on a historical GM Shop Order list (click link shown directly below) of important dream cars, this unique SR-2 vaulted GM forward in racing. Harley Earl originally built the SR-2 (SEBRING RACER) for his son, Jerry, so he wouldn’t race a Ferrari Barchetta. An informative letter, written by Jerry Earl in 2005, further authenticates the story behind this already well established sports car. Also included are exclusive never before seen photos of Dr. Dick Thompson and Jerry Earl racing at Road America at Elkhart Lake and other notable racetracks from Watkins Glen to Nassau in the Bahamas. (Picture directly above is vintage, while the 4 shown directly below are of SR-2 in its current condition.) 1954 Bonneville Special Richard Earl had a contractual agreement with Barrett Jackson to help sell this one vehicle at their January, 2006 auction. The final bid for the Bonneville Special was $2.8 million. This one-of-a-kind motoramic masterpiece is on a storied list of priceless dream cars designed by Harley Earl (click link above showing this historic 3-pg press release) and was influenced by contemporary aviation design. Harley Earl endowed the car with a Plexiglas cockpit canopy and array of genuine airplane instruments. Two Bonneville Specials were hand built inside GM Styling, both powered by four-carburetor straight eight engines. They were retired from the show car circuit when the overhead-value Pontiac V-8 was introduced in 1955. Both Bonneville Specials survive including this metallic green example, which was used by GM for West Coast promotional purposes. ________________________________________________________ For Sale: 1958 Corvette “FANCY FREE” Price: Serious Inquiries Only Contact: Richard Earl at: 561.420.9880
